My kitten are great friends (they are 9 months and 5 months old) and they often groom each other… most of the time it is normal licking– but the older cat also chews on the younger cat’s ears.
this is what i’m wondering–
has anyone ever seen a cat do that before? i’m sure someone has, but i just want to know if there are any negative ramifications. the little kitten’s ears gets SOOOOO wet– i just don’t want her to get an infection or anything…

could be completely normal and i’m just being silly :)

thanks everyone!

yeah, i figured it was normal… and i’ll watch for the signs of rawness/redness.

thankfully, we haven’t had any problem with hairballs– right now we feed them 1/2 royal canin kitten food and 1/2 wet food… and we almost always have cat grass out for their digestion…

Very normal. But quite special!

Your cats are just gorgeous! I love the photo! You can be so very happy that they get along so well.

I have had cats all my life and the cats I have now are the first cats I have had that groom each other and are really bonded. Mine are two unrelated neutered males adopted separately as young adults. They take turns grooming and licking and taking care of one another. They make the trip (always together) to go downstairs to the potty box and wait for one another.

It is the most wonderful experience ever to have pets so close to one another. Congratulations. You hit the kitty jackpot. They hit the jackpot too because they have such a caring home! :)

PS Keep feeding the Royal Canin food. It must be one of the very best foods for cats in terms of nutrition. Mine love it! Is there any way you can post some more pictures of the kitties all curled up? That one photo was precious! :)

It’s fine. As far as they know, they are littermates. You are lucky to have such wonderful kitties.

It’s a good idea to make sure they get all of their immunizations and checkups on time, though.

very cute, I wouldn’t worry unless skin gets raw, if you are worried, you can take a cotton ball or white wash cloth and gently dry off the area.

Aww…they are sooo cute…yea my cats do that all the time…it’s a playful thing and its nothing to worry about…just means they are buddies…otherwise they wouldn’t be in the same bad and licking each other…cat’s don’t just let anyone groom them

Totally normal activity! You might want to get the special food that helps get rid of hair balls to feed occasionally!
There are a number of brands of that type food, it can be found in Walmart, Petsmart, etc.

They are adorable. Some of my cats have done this, too. The funny thing is when they’re trying to clean each other’s ears both at the same time. Many times the dominant cat is the licker and the lesser cat is the lickee. They’re always fun to watch.

It’s really not any different than what many animals in the wild do to each other. That’s a way for them to socialize.
